Quote of the Week

Actually, this week, it’s a “Poem of the Week.” While looking for a good quote, I came across this poem written by none other than Dr. Seuss! I used to love One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish when I was younger. It was such a fun children’s book. Anyway, I’ve read plenty of books where the author goes on and on and on and on and on in some long flowery description or backstory, making reading it miserable. I would either skip through those parts or not even finish the story. So, as an author myself, I’ve made it a goal not to bore my readers to death with long descriptions.

“It has often been said
there’s so much to be read,
you never can cram
all those words in your head.

So the writer who breeds
more words than he needs
is making a chore
for the reader who reads.

That’s why my belief is
the briefer the brief is,
the greater the sigh
of the reader’s relief is.

And that’s why your books
have such power and strength.
You publish with shorth!
(Shorth is better than length.)”
― Dr. Seuss
