This week’s quote is from Chuck Wendig, author of Blackbirds.
“Read your work out loud. Don’t give me that look. Read your work aloud. Don’t argue. Don’t fight. It will help. promise. I promise. I guarantee it. If you find it didn’t help you, lemme know. I will let you Taser me in the face. And by “me,” I mean, some other guy who will be my stand-in. Probably some real estate agent or tollbooth attendant.” – Chuck Wendig
Not only is the quote rather funny, it’s very true. Reading my draft out loud has been so helpful to me! I read the beginning of Snow out loud at a writer’s group I went to and was able to hear how unnecessarily long it was, something I hadn’t realized before. I’ve also caught a lot more mistakes this way. I’d definitely recommend reading your draft out loud.
