Last Award

Today I’m accepting my last award, the Sisterhood of the World Bloggers Award! This award is from Irisbloom5 at her blog, Thank you so much! 🙂

The rules are similar to the other two awards I’ve accepted this past month. I have to thank the person who gave me the award, post the award picture, answer the ten questions Irisbloom5 asked me, nominate ten fellow bloggers, and ask them ten questions. Let’s get started!

1. What’s the color you associate most with autumn?

The color I associate the most with autumn is orange. Autumn is full of bright orange leaves and lots of delicious pumpkin treats that are typically orange.

2: What’s the worst movie you ever saw?

I’ve seen some really terrible movies, but the worst movie I ever saw was Goldy 3: The Magic of the Golden Bear. Now, you may ask yourself, with a title like that, why did you watch it? Well, I saw the title while flipping through Netflix, and I knew it was going to be so bad that it would be hilarious. It fully lived up to my expectations!

3: What’s better? Regular Apple Cider or Hot Apple Cider?

I prefer my apple cider cold. It’s a great debate in my family since both me and my dad like it cold, but my mom likes it hot with cinnamon on top. 🙂

4: What book are you reading right now?

I just finished Mockingjay, the last book in The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. Once I’ve finally recovered from that emotional rollercoaster of a book, full of heart-breaking scenes, I plan to finish Curse of the Spider King by Wayne Thomas Batson.

5: Is there a Christmas radio station already going where you live? (There is where I live, and I just think that’s ridiculous! It’s not even Halloween yet!)

Yes, there is. I’m not a Christmas music person at all. My dad and I always listen to the 80’s weekend when we drive to my ice skating lessons on Saturday. We’re not happy that they’re taking away our 80’s music for Christmas music.

6: Would you like a question that doesn’t have to do with the time of year or the holidays?

Yes, please! 😀

7: What was your first fandom?

Fandoms, much better topic! My first fandom was Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit. It was my first fandom that I knew I was a part of. It’s still my main fandom and usually the first one I list when asked what fandoms I’m a part of.

8: What’s your favorite childhood show that you would watch again today?

I have, when I am sick, watched Blue’s Clues on occasion. If you mean on a daily, everyday basis, then it would be Fetch! With Ruff Ruffman.

9: Greek Gods or Roman Gods?

Greek gods! I really enjoyed the Percy Jackson books, and I am fully on the Camp Half-Blood side. 🙂

10: Did you answer all these questions truthfully? Give and answer that does not include yes or no.

I give my word that these questions were answered truthfully. 🙂

Now, for my nominations:

Best Blogging Buddies Award 2

Best Blogging Buddy Award 2: This time it’s from Roo! Thanks so much to Roo for the award! I really appreciate it!

The rules are the same as last time. I have to answer Roo’s fifteen questions, nominate some fellow bloggers, and then create fifteen question to ask them. I’ll start by answering Roo’s fifteen questions:

What’s your favorite color? Any idea why?

My favorite color is purple. I’m really not sure why. I just like the color.

What word do you find incredibly fun to say? 😉

I like saying the word book, actually. Words that have Ks and Os in them are really fun to say.

Favorite weather?

Hot! I much prefer hot weather than cold. Right now it’s absolutely freezing where I live, and I’m already ready for summer to return.

Dragons or unicorns?

Like I said when I answered Bessie Lark’s question last week, I prefer dragons with the voice of Benedict Cumberbatch. 😉

Knights or ninjas?

I’m going with Knights. Fantasy is one of my favorite genres, and knights are a big part of that world.

Pirates or bandits?

I prefer pirates. I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie, and so because of that, I’m choosing pirates.

What’s your favorite genre of book?

I love dystopian/sci-fi books. I also enjoy fantasy as well.

What movie(s) are you looking forward to?

The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies. I’m both excited and heartbroken that we’re at the end of the Tolkien movies. I know the ending is going to make me cry. 😦 Other movies I’m excited for are Big Hero 6, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 1, and The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

What was your favorite book when you were growing up?

Probably the Boxcar Children books. It’s actually funny because Netflix added the animated movie version of the Boxcar Children, and I just saw it a few days ago. I managed to watch the whole thing even though the animation was terrible. It did stick pretty close to the book, though.

Favorite book now?

There are so many, but a definite favorite is The Maze Runner by James Dashner. If you have never read this series, then you are missing out.

Do you like to dance? (Even if you’re bad at it =P)

Not really. I used to love dancing when I was little. I took two years of tap and ballet, but after that, I was all danced-out.

If you could travel back in time, when would you go?

The man himself, Ulrich Salchow ( Courtesy of

The man himself, Ulrich Salchow ( Courtesy of

I’m a figure skater, and right now I’m trying to correctly land a salchow, which is a type of ice skating jump. What I’d love to do is find the Doctor, travel back in time in the TARDIS, and find Mr. Ulrich Salchow in the 1900s (inventor of the salchow jump which was named after him) and tell him just how much I hate this frustrating jump. Then I’d ask him to teach me how to land one.

Do you like traveling/want to travel?

Yes, I want to travel. I’d really love to go to the UK , Ireland, New Zealand, and Japan. I have a lot of countries on my list that I’d love to visit, but those are the top four.

Big city or small town?

Small town. I would love to live in a quirky small town one day.

What’s your favorite holiday?

I’m not a big holiday person. I’d probably say Christmas is my favorite holiday, though. It’s kind of funny because I’m usually sick of Christmas music three days into the season.

Now, my nominations:

Like Star Filled Skies

Rayleigh Ann

Now for my questions:

1. Least favorite book?

2. Favorite fictional characters?

3. Have you ever won anything?

4. What was the last book you read?

5. The last movie you cried through?

6. Least favorite letter of the alphabet?

7. Favorite kind of cheese?

8. What is your favorite word and why?

9. Favorite memory?

10. Do you listen to movie soundtracks?

11. What is your favorite genre to write?

12. Least favorite time of the year?

13. Do you write freehand or type?

14. What are three items in your purse or wallet or pockets?

15. What food would you not be able to give up?

Thanks again to Roo for the nomination!

Thanks for reading!

Dragon’s Loyalty Award

Today is my last award acceptance post. A few months ago, Bessie Lark nominated me for the Dragon’s Loyalty Award. A big thanks to Bessie Lark for nominating me! 😀 All right, so the rules are:

1. Display the award on your blog

2. Announce your “win” with a post

3. Present the award to 15 deserving bloggers

4. Drop them a comment to let them know

5. Post seven interesting things about yourself

I’m supposed to nominate 15 blogs, but I’m afraid I don’t have quite that many. Don’t call the dragon on me! (Apologies to the people I swamped with awards!)

Now, seven facts about myself:

1. I am a night owl rather than a morning bird.

2. My favorite Youtube channel is Blimey Cow.

3. The last novel I read was Saving Thanehaven by Catherine Jinks.

4. I have some English money. The oldest coin is from 1887. My favorite is a 1942 three pence coin. I keep all the coins in a hedgehog bank. 🙂

6. The first thing I learned how to draw was a dragon.

7. My WordPress username comes from a nickname for my cat, Anya. She can be a monster, and so we call her Anster Monster. The “14” part of the username comes from the day of my birthday.

Sunshine Award

Two weeks ago, I announced that over the next month I’d be accepting the awards that some of my followers have kindly given me! Today, I’m accepting another award. This time it is the Sunshine Award from Jennifer K. Marsh. I’d like to start off by saying thank you for the award! I really appreciate it.

The rules are:

1) Display the award graphic in the post.
2) Link to whoever nominated you.
3) List ten facts about yourself.
4) Nominate ten fellow bloggers “who positively and creatively inspire others in the blogsphere.”
5) Leave a comment on the nominees’ blogs to tell them of the award.

Here are ten facts about myself:

1. When I was younger, I was terrified of escalators. I wouldn’t get on them, and if I had to, I’d burst out into tears. While my fear of them has lessened, escalators still aren’t my favorite things, and I will avoid them if I can. I also get motion sick on them, which doesn’t make me love them any more.

2. I hate peanut butter. I used to love it as a kid, but one day I just stopped liking it and haven’t liked it since.

3. I do not own a cell phone. I do have an android mp3 player I can text with.

4. I am introverted, and would much prefer to stay in my house with my music and writing than go out into the world.

5. My biggest book pet peeve is when a book is perfectly clean and what I would consider readable except for “that one scene.”

6. I recently checked out the The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe soundtrack, and I love it! My favorite track is “Lucy Meets Mr. Tumnus.”

7. We are planning on moving later this summer, and this will be the first time I’ve ever moved.

8. My favorite style to draw in is anime/manga.

9. I am out of school for the summer as of two weeks ago! 🙂

10. I prefer vanilla cake and ice cream to chocolate.

Now, my nominees. Yep, I’m aware there are only four. Please, don’t arrest me for breaking the rules! 🙂

Another Award Post!

Last Monday, I posted my acceptance of two Liebster awards I had received. (You can find that post here.) Today I’m continuing last week’s theme by accepting another Liebster award, this time from Bessie Lark!

First off, I’d like to thank Bessie Lark for nominating me! I really appreciate it. 🙂 This Liebster has some different rules than the last ones. This time, I have to answer Bessie Lark’s eleven questions and list eleven random facts about myself. I have to display the Liebster award graphic on my site, and then nominate other bloggers with less than a thousand followers for this award.

Bessie Lark’s eleven questions:

1. Do you prefer hot or cold weather, and why?

HOT! I really hate cold weather. I like wearing shorts and short sleeve shirts more than sweaters.

2. What type of writing do you enjoy the most?

I prefer to write fiction, especially sci-fi and fantasy. If we want to go even more specific, dystopian is my favorite sub-genre to write in.

3. What book did you most recently finish, and was it a good read? What’s next on your reading agenda?

I just finished The Copernicus Legacy: The Forbidden Stone by Tony Abbott. It was an amazing book! I plan to read either Taken by Edward Bloor or A Web of Air by Philip Reeve next.

4. Where would you most like to live (imaginary or realistic)?

I would most like to live in Middle-Earth, especially Erebor if everyone had lived. If I had to chose a real place, it would be England, Ireland, Scotland, Japan, or New Zealand.

5. Are you excited for college? Why or why not?

I’m not really excited for college. I’m a few years away from graduating high school, so college hasn’t really entered my mind.

6. Han Solo or Luke Skywalker?

How is this even a choice? Han Solo, of course! 🙂

7. What is your least favorite color?

Yellow. I don’t know why, but I just really dislike yellow.

8. How do you fold your hands (i.e. which thumb is on top)? Can you roll your tongue?

My left thumb is on top. And no, I can’t roll my tongue.

9. Who is your favorite villain in literature (or a movie) and why?

I often love the villains more than the actual heroes, as the villains tend to be more interesting and complex. While I’m sure I’m missing some, here the ones that come to mind as my favorites: Loki from the Marvel Movies, Khan from Star Trek, Darth Vader from Star Wars, Smaug from The Hobbit, Moriarty from the Sherlock Holmes books, Cluny the Scourge from Redwall, and just because she was so much fun, Yzma from The Emperor’s New Groove.

10. Who is your least favorite main character in literature (or a movie) and why?

*hides from all the Star Wars fans* Annakin Skywalker. I hated him. How can this whiny, obnoxious kid turn into Darth Vader? Ugh. For a runner up: Luke Skywalker.

11. Would you rather be Nancy Drew or the original Elsie Dinsmore and why?

Nancy Drew. I’ve read both series (well, part of them anyway), and I definitely choose Nancy Drew. I think it would be pretty awesome to be able to solve mysteries like that.

Now eleven random facts about me:

1. Once my nail polish has completely chipped off of one finger, ALL my nail polish must come off. I don’t why that is.

2. I enjoy archery and own two bows, one of which is a compound and the other is a recurve.

3.  My favorite foreign language is Japanese. I love listening to songs in Japanese, even though I can’t understand what they are saying.

4.  I love getting marshmallows, sticking them on a plate and heating them up in the microwave so that they puff up. Then I dip my finger in the gooey, hot marshmallow and eat it that way.

5.  I currently have 21 books, 7 CDs, and 1 audio book out from the library.

6. My favorite color is purple, and it is also the color of my headphones.

7. I have only been to a movie theater twice in my life. Once, when I was younger to see an American Girl movie and then last December to see The Desolation of Smaug.

8. The only accent I can do consistently is an English accent.

9. My favorite musical is My Fair Lady.

10. The latest I’ve ever stayed up was 6am in the morning. (from around 8am the previous morning).

11. While this is not about me, so to speak, I stuck it in here because it’s cute. My cat likes to sit on my shoulder and put her paws around me, essentially hugging my neck.

I am nominating the following bloggers for this award:

Jennifer K. Marsh

Ramblings of a Wayward Author

Teenage Writer

Now, my eleven questions for my nominees!

1. What was the last movie you watched?

2. What was the strangest thing you ever found left in a library book?

3. What is your favorite fiction genre to write in?

4. Do you prefer reading books or listening to them?

5. What is your least favorite food?

6. When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

7. What prompted you to start your blog?

8. Are you a night person or a morning person?

9. What toppings do you like on your pizza?

10. If you could rewrite any book, which book would it be and why?

11. What color are your bedroom walls? What color would you like them to be?

Thanks for reading, and thanks again to Bessie Lark for the nomination!

~ Kayla

First off, I would like to apologize. Why? Well, I’ve received several awards, and I haven’t accepted them yet! Today I’m going to change that! Over the next couple of weeks, I will accept the awards I’ve been given. 🙂 So, let’s get started!

I am accepting two Liebster awards today. One is from Jennifer K. Marsh (you can find her blog here), and the other is from Alexandra Needham (you can find her blog here). Thank you to both bloggers for nominating me! 🙂

What is a Liebster Award, you ask? Well, people nominate blogs they enjoy that have less than 200 followers so that others can find these newer and smaller blogs and get to know them. In order to accept the Liebster Award a blogger has to complete the following:

1) Post the Liebster Award graphic on your site.
2) Thank the blogger who nominated your blog.
3) Answer the 10 questions from the post of the person who nominated them.
4) The nominee will nominate 10 other blogs who have less than 200 followers.
5) The nominee will then create 10 questions of their own for their nominated bloggers to answer in their Liebster post.

Let’s start by displaying the Liebster Award graphics on my site:

liebster4 liebster-award-pfl

Now that that’s taken care of, here are my answers to Jennifer K. Marsh’s ten questions:

1) What has been one of your most hilariously embarrassing moments?

Hmmm…I know I’ve probably had one, but I really can’t remember it. There was that one time when I was still learning how to ice skate, and tried to stop by running into the wall. I almost went completely over the top and into the hockey bench section. I don’t know if that was hilarious, but it was quite painful. I have since learned how to stop correctly. 😉

2) If you were a bird, where would you go?

Well, I don’t know if birds can fly across “the pond,” but I would fly to the UK. I have always wanted to visit there.

3) Fire, earth, air or water? – I kinda had to ask that. I am the creator of a fantasy race of elemental beings, after all…

As I’m writing a series of books about a race that can control nature, I’ve become quite familiar with the different elements. 😉 I would probably choose fire.

4) What is your favourite season, and why? – Again, kinda had to be asked, given my involvement with nature

Summer! I prefer the heat to the cold, so summer is my favorite. And, of course, there is no school during the summer!

5) What’s your least favourite house chore?

Folding laundry. I don’t know why, I just really hate folding laundry.

6) Have you ever had a simple moment that made you stop and question everything? If so, what was it?

After being on the internet for hours at a time, I have stopped to question what am I doing with my life and exactly how I managed to end up on the Wikipedia page for ice cream when my only plan was to check my Pinterest feed for a few minutes! 😉

7) What/who is your greatest source of inspiration?

Speaking in terms of writing inspiration, I would say Brian Jacques and Sigmund Brouwer are probably my biggest inspirations. Brian Jacques made me want to start writing, while Sigmund Brouwer inspired me to try writing sci-fi, my favorite genre to write in.

8) What’s your most irrational fear?

I am terrified of swimming in deep water. The 9ft section in a local pool is pushing the envelope of how deep I will go.

9) Which attribute is most important to you: Courage, Freedom, Strength or Wisdom?

As an American, it might be illegal for me to pick something other than freedom, but I think I would go with courage. I’m not a super courageous person, so courage is important to me.

10) What’s your favourite smell?

I love the scent of cinnamon and horses. (Horses also make me sneeze, so it’s a love/hate relationship with that smell.)

And now, my ten questions from Alexandra Needham:

1. What was your first pet?

My first pets were more family pets. When I was younger, we had two black and white cats named Shadow and Taz. I have memories of Shadow sitting at my bedroom door. He would stay on guard there until I fell asleep.

2. What is your ideal job?

As I’m sure most of my readers could probably guess, my ideal job is a writer.

3. Are there enough hours in the day?

There are never enough hours in the day!

4. What is the most obscure book you own? Why do you have it?

While it’s technically not my book, my mom has a copy of The Long White Month by Dean Marshall. It was given to her by her grandmother. Both my mom and I love this book.

5. What would you like to be able to see from your window?

Is Minas Tirith an answer? 😉 Okay, okay, so if I have to pick something real that I would like to see outside my window … I would pick Erebor.

6. Where was your best holiday or day out?

Probably when my family and I went to Virginia Beach. The vacation started horribly. The cabin we were supposed to stay in was smelly and moldy (there was actually black mold everywhere). It took a turn for the better when we got a clean hotel room on the beach. The contrast between the cabin and hotel made the hotel seem a thousand times better and made a lasting impression in my memory.

7. Toilet paper, over or under?

As long as there’s toilet paper in the bathroom, I really don’t care which way it rolls. 🙂

8. What is the one thing you can’t get through the day without?

I love my music, and I probably couldn’t get through the day without it.

9.  Describe your mug/teacup.

I don’t usually use a mug, and when I do, I don’t have a favorite. I do have a favorite square plastic blue cup.

10. What is the air-speed velocity of an unladen swallow?

*calculates rapidly* Hmmm…4,957,808,900,708, 646 miles per hour. What? You’re telling me that swallows can’t go that fast? I might have made a little error in my calculating here…. 😉 (Okay, this website here,, is telling me that the airspeed velocity of an unladen European Swallow is 24 miles per hour, or 11 meters per second. So, that is the real airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow.)

Here are my nominations for the Liebster Award (I didn’t exactly follow the rules, as I only nominated six blogs instead of ten):

My ten questions for my nominees:

1) What is your favorite quote, and who is it by?

2) Vegetarian, omnivore, or carnivore?

3) What is your favorite fluffy animal?

4) Did you ever wear braces?

5) What was your most hated school assignment ever?

6) If you could own any car, which one would you own?

7) How many blogs do you follow?

8) Have you ever read through the entire Bible?

9) What is your favorite type of donut?

10) What is your favorite blog post you have written and why?

Thanks again to Jennifer K. Marsh and Alexandra Needham for nominating me!
