Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: December 26 – January 1

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 7,028

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Tuesday with 1,635.

What I Worked On: I worked on Hunger Games fanfiction, a Christmas story, and a new novel idea.

The Good News: I did write this week …

The Bad News: … but I didn’t make my editing goal.

Lesson Learned: It was a crazy busy week, so I didn’t make my goal of editing Snow. I didn’t even have a chance to open the document. So, my lesson learned is that life happens, and sometimes writing (or editing) has to take a backseat. I’m going to retry my goal this week, which will hopefully be calmer. 🙂

Goal for Next Week:  My goal is to edit a chapter of Snow this week.

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: December 19 – 25

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 7,850

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Thursday with 2,412 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on Hunger Games fanfiction, a Christmas story, and a new novel idea.

The Good News: I made my goal, and I feel like I got a ton of writing in.

The Bad News: I need to get back to editing Snow.

Lesson Learned: I learned how to procrastinate. Okay, okay, not really!  I’ve been avoiding editing Snow since I finished writing my NaNo novel. I really dislike editing, so I’m not very motivated to do it! However, I really want and need to finish editing Snow. So, I’m going to try and “unlearn” this lesson and start editing soon!

Goal for Next Week:  My goal is to edit a chapter of Snow this week.

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: December 12 – 18

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 6,659

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Tuesday with 1,686.

What I Worked On: I worked on Hunger Games fanfiction, a Christmas story, and a new novel idea.

The Good News: Despite the crazy week, I managed to make my goal every day!

The Bad News: It was an insane week, so I didn’t get as much writing in as I would have liked.

Lesson Learned: I’ve started working on writing fanfiction about an hour or so before I go to bed. It’s enough time to get in my 700 words, and it’s actually pretty relaxing, helping me to fall asleep. This is less than a lesson learned and more something I’ve found that’s really helped me lately!

Goal for Next Week:  My goal is to write 700 words a day.

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: November 28 – December 4

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 4,674

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Thursday with 1,460 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on fanfiction and a Snow story.

The Good News: I feel like I’ve gotten a lot of work done on the fanfictions I wanted to finish this week.

The Bad News: I didn’t make my goal the first two days of the week.

Lesson Learned: I’ve actually felt a little guilty for working on fanfictions this week instead of a novel. However, it’s been nice to take a break from working on a original idea and working out the fanfic ideas I came up with during NaNo and didn’t have a chance to write. It’s actually helped me generate more novel ideas, and I feel more ready to work on my next original writing project. So, my lesson learned is that sometimes a fun writing break is just what I need to help get those creative juices flowing.

Goal for Next Week:  My goal is to write to write 700 words a day.

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: November 7 – 13

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 13,298

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Saturday with 2,479 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on my NaNoWriMo novel.

The Good News: I made my goal every day this week again!

The Bad News: I’m not loving my story as much as I did in the beginning.

Lesson Learned: I’ve been having a great time on the NaNoWriMo forums. One of my favorite things is word warring. For those who don’t know, a word war is when you see how many words you can write in a set amount of time. I wasn’t able to do them during my previous NaNos, but I finally got a chance to join in this year. They are great for getting my word count up and keeping me motivated. My lesson learned for this week is how helpful a little friendly competition can be!

Goal for Next Week: My goal is to write 1,667 words a day for NaNoWriMo!

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: October 17 – 23

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 4,288

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Friday with 2,451 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on editing Snow, writing my novel idea, and fanfiction.

The Good News: I made my goal and exceeded it by 1,288 words!

The Bad News: I still can’t decide on my name for my female MC in my NaNo novel.

Lesson Learned: Even though I’m a Pantser (meaning I don’t plan out my novels), I like to have my first line already in my head for NaNoWriMo. I’m trying to create the perfect opening, and I found this article from Go Teen Writers about dos and don’ts for creating good first novel lines. I tend to dump a bunch of information on the reader in the first lines, so this was a good reminder NOT to do that. Check out the article here: http://goteenwriters.blogspot.com/2014/10/intriguing-story-openings.html.

Goal for Next Week: My goal is to choose my character names, think up my first line, and write 3,000 words this week.

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: October 3 – 9

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 2,278

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Friday with 1,679 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on editing Snow, writing my novel idea, and fanfiction.

The Good News: I haven’t missed a day yet in my 100-4-100 Go Teen Writer’s challenge.

The Bad News: I didn’t make my goal for editing this week.

Lesson Learned: It was a crazy busy week, and I barely got any writing done at all. My family is having a new home built, so my life is a little crazy right now! Because of that, I haven’t had much free time to write, especially this week. I’m learning just to go with the craziness and get as much writing in as I can when I can.

Goal for Next Week: My goal is to write at least 2,000 words. I’m not making my goal too high as I’m anticipating another crazy week.

Thanks for reading!

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: July 18 – 24

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 11,931

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Monday with 1,731 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on my Camp NaNoWriMo novel, Fences.

The Good News: I still haven’t missed a day of NaNoWriMo!

The Bad News: I’m ready to be finished working on my NaNoWriMo novel.

Lesson Learned: I’m ready to work on something else! I’ve come up with a new novel idea, have a bunch of fanfictions I want to write, and I want to get back to editing Snow. This is always the time of NaNo where progress seems to drag for me, and I’m ready for something new. Every NaNo, my lesson learned is to just keep going, even when it isn’t the easiest.

Goal for Next Week: My goal for next week is 1,667 words a day.

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: July 11 – 17

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 13,359

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Sunday with 2,882 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on my Camp NaNoWriMo novel, Fences, and wrote some fanfiction.

The Good News: I haven’t missed a day of NaNoWriMo yet!

The Bad News: I try not write any fanfiction during NaNoWriMo so I can focus solely on my novel. I lost control and gave in last week. >.<

Lesson Learned: Do not try to write while riding in a car. I tried to get in my NaNo writing on the way down to my grandmother’s, and I was so motion sick. I am never ever writing in the car again.

Goal for Next Week: My goal for next week is 1,667 words a day.

Weekly Writing Wrap-Up: July 4 – 10

Welcome to my Weekly Writing Wrap-Up for this week.

Total Word Count for the Week: 12,212

Top Writing Day: My top writing day was Monday with 1,788 words.

What I Worked On: I worked on my Camp NaNoWriMo novel, Fences, and edited Snow.

The Good News: It’s week 2 of NaNo, and I haven’t missed a day yet.

The Bad News: I’ve been frustrated with a scene I wrote because I can’t quite work out the details to make it believable.

Lesson Learned: I wrote a scene where Bravery climbs the Fence to help out Dax. When I wrote it, I knew I’d have to change some of it up when I went back and edited. In fact, what I really wanted to do was rewrite it. However, since it’s NaNo, I just kept writing. The scene, while it still might need some changes and is a source of frustration as I mentioned above, has inspired a whole new plot line. My lesson learned is not to worry about a scene that might not be perfect at that moment.

Goal for Next Week: My goal for next week is 1,667 words a day.
